Command Sergeant Major Grant L. Fairman

Command Sergeant Major (CSM) Grant L. Fairman hails from Concord, CA. He enlisted in the Army in 2001 as a 63B Light Wheeled Vehicle Mechanic. In 2005, CSM Fairman reclassed to 35P Cryptologic Linguist (MSA).

CSM Fairman has successfully held leadership positions within FORSCOM, INSCOM, SOCOM, and T2COM. His assignment history includes the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), 706th Military Intelligence Group, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne), 3d Armored Calvary Regiment, and 82nd Airborne Division. He has deployed multiple times in support of contingency operations including Operation ENDURING FREADOM and Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

CSM Fairman’s awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal (1 OLC), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Army Achievement Medal (1 OLC), Army Good Conduct Medal (8th award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal (2 stars), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (3 Stars), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, NCOPD Ribbon (numeral 5), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral 2), NATO Medal, Senior Parachutist Badge, Combat Action Badge, Mechanic Badge, Driver Badge, and the German Armed Forces Badge (Silver). CSM Fairman is also a recipient of the Knowlton Award.

CSM Fairman’s military education and training includes Sergeant Major Course (class 75), Master Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Basic Non-Commissioned Officer Course, Primary Leadership Development Course, Intermediate Arabic Course (MSA), Basic Arabic Course (MSA), Equal Opportunity Advisor Course, Master Resiliency Trainer (Level 1), Airborne School, USASOC Static Line Jump Master Course, and numerous military intelligence related courses.

CSM Fairman earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice (summa cum laude) from Ashford University, an associate’s degree in intelligence operations (honors) from Cochise College, and an associate’s degree in Arabic language studies from the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center. CSM Fairman has also earned certifications as a mediator through the Justice Center of Atlanta and as a life coach with the Internation Coaching Federation.

Command Sergeant Major Fairman is married to his wife and together they have three children.
